Student Classes

At the IHM Center for Literacy, we provide:

  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL): Our ESOL classes are tailored to enhance students’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills at every proficiency level. Through interactive lessons, students gain practical language skills for everyday communication, such as shopping, navigating public transportation, and conversing with employers, teachers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Digital Literacy: Our digital literacy program provides hands-on instruction in essential computer skills and Internet navigation. Students learn how to operate devices, use email, and navigate online platforms, empowering them to complete everyday tasks like paying bills, applying for jobs, and accessing community resources.
  • Job Skills: Students are supported in their career journeys through integrated lessons that focus on essential job readiness skills. These include resume writing, interview preparation, and workplace communication.
  • Citizenship Preparation: Courses to help learners prepare for the naturalization process and U.S. citizenship test.
  • Conversation Classes: These classes give adult English learners a relaxed, supportive space to practice speaking and listening skills. Volunteers guide small-group discussions on everyday topics, helping learners build confidence, vocabulary, and connections in their new community.
  • Community Support: We are committed to addressing the broader needs of our students by fostering a supportive network and connecting them with valuable resources. We help students navigate challenges and access opportunities that promote stability and well-being. By addressing these needs, we create a strong foundation for their educational and personal success, ensuring every learner feels supported both inside and outside the classroom.
